Good morning! Many of you know that occasionally I write about the child sponsorship program of Compassion International. Today I’m focusing on the children who have been waiting more than six months for a sponsor.
Imagine you are a child, impacted by severe poverty. You learn about a new program at a local church that provides educational benefits, nutrition and health care benefits, life skills training, and opportunities to hear the gospel.
And part of this program includes the opportunity to have a sponsor–someone who will write letters, send pictures, pray for you and care about you.
So you register, and ideally, you will get a sponsor quickly and begin a relationship that can change your life and the way you think about yourself and about God.
But you might have to wait. And wait. And wait.
Although the children still receive the project benefits, the waiting for a sponsor scenario happens to some of the children who register for the Compassion program. The following video illustrates that. I hope you’ll take a moment to watch it.
When we received our first letter from Fitri in Indonesia, the reality of her wait came through in her words, “When I heard that I had a new sponsor, I was so happy and grateful to God because He had heard my prayers. Every day I prayed to ask for a sponsor.”
Our sponsored children’s words often bring tears to my eyes, and those words certainly did. I will never regret our decision to sponsor Fitri.
Visit here to see the children who have been waiting the longest.
When you sponsor a child from this list, Compassion will send you a scrapbook to organize your child’s letters and photos.
This ministry is dear to my heart, and I appreciate the time you took to read about it here.
