Things No One Tells You About Getting a Puppy

Getting a puppy might be one of the best things you ever do in your life, but it can also be a lot of work. People adore puppies, but they take a lot of time and energy, much like human infants. There are some things no one tells you about getting a new puppy.

things to know before you get a puppy

If you are reading this, maybe you’re considering bringing a puppy into your life. There are some things that are vital to know before you bring a new puppy into your family.

Your social life may be non-existent for a period

As a general rule, it’s not a good idea to leave your puppy home alone for extended periods, so your social life may take a hit. As soon as your puppy comes home, it needs a lot of attention and care.

Someone needs to be home most of the time with a new puppy, as puppies get incredibly lonely and will get upset if left alone. You will also want a lot of time to bond.

It will be a steep learning curve, for both you and your puppy

A dog may have been part of your childhood. Even so, that does not make you totally prepared to look after a puppy and care for your new dog as it develops into an adult.

That’s why puppy training is a good idea to help both your puppy and you learn how to do things appropriately. A few videos on how to care for a new dog might not be enough.

Teething Is not simply a human phenomenon

When pups have baby teeth, they start to move and come up, and adult teeth migrate in to fill them in. If your puppy is young enough, you might have to go through the teething process twice before he or she become an adult dog.

Your new puppy might chew and devour anything and everything in sight. Keep shoes out of sight and reach. Otherwise, you’ll have to spend a lot of money on new shoes every month!

Puppies cost plenty of money

As soon as you welcome a puppy into your household, you will have to pay for a number of items that keep escalating, such as special dog food, vaccines, and check-ups. You will also want to keep well stocked with toys (that your puppy might demolish in roughly 24 hours!)

Things like insurance, dental care, and grooming are also things you might have to pay for. The list goes on! Even though you’ll want to dote on your new puppy and might not mind spending the money, your budget could suffer a bit.

Your puppy will follow you everywhere

In the end, it doesn’t matter what sort of dog you receive, all young canines are needy. As you bond with and nurture your new puppy, he or she will want to be with you all of the time. And, you won’t want it any other way!
