When I discovered traveler’s notebooks, I discovered a whole new system for journaling that is practical, portable, and fun. Whether you love to bullet journal, art journal, or do any kind of list- making or documenting your thoughts, the traveler’s journal is a wonderful system.

Are you familiar with traveler’s notebooks? For those of you who are as unaware as I was until a year or two ago, a traveler’s notebook is a leather or leather-like or fabric cover that holds multiple inserts (mini-notebooks) with elastic bands. So, in reality, you are carrying around several little notebooks in one book-like cover. One for say, your calendar, one for lists, one for a daily journal, one for sketching, etc. But they are all in the same place. Several little notebooks, all in one nice tidy package. This really speaks to my need for structure and portability!
(A divided binder or discbound notebook serves a similar purpose. I have those too. Different notebooks for different things!)
Here are the traveler’s notebooks I’ve committed to filling this year. The floral one is from Webster’s Pages. That particular one is discontinued, but there are several similar ones. The brown one was on clearance at Hobby Lobby.
Traveler’s notebooks come in all different price ranges. Mine were both on clearance. They each came with one plain notebook insert, and then I purchased additional (much prettier!) inserts separately on Etsy. Inside each of these, I have 4 individual notebooks (inserts), but I could fit a few more.
Note: These pretty notebook inserts in the pictures above and below did NOT come with the traveler’s notebook. It comes with one plain insert. I purchased my inserts at Etsy.
I’m going to fill those inserts up this year with lists, drawings, gratitude, goals, prayers, etc. (I have ideas to fill a notebook in my post here.) I want to encourage all of you to journal this year. No journaling fear!
I’m also a bit of a pen fanatic, and I often use fountain pens in my journals. I love colorful gel pens, too, and have some new favorite ones. They’re so smooth, they glide. They also dry very fast and don’t smear at all. Pentel Energel RTX retractables. Some of the colors also come in a 1.0 mm (broad tip.) Sometimes I like to write with that bold line, when I’m writing bigger.
