A Failproof Teacher Gift

A Failproof Teacher Gift

It’s nearing the end of another school year.  Teachers are tired.

When my kids were little, for a few years we gave (with the best intentions!), the standard things that we thought teachers would like (mugs and such.)

Teachers get a LOT of mugs.  They appreciate the thought, for sure.  But, think about it.  If a teacher has at least 15 or 20 students in a class, and roughly a fourth of the kids give the teacher mugs…Well, do the math to figure out how much cabinet space would be required to hold that many mugs after a few years.

A gift card, no matter how small, to a coffee shop or a bookstore, etc. is always appreciated by teachers, I think. Even if a teacher doesn’t like coffee, there is usually something to enjoy at a coffee shop, right?  And well…books!  (I know, I know, a gift card seems obvious, but often parents overthink the whole teacher gift idea. Sometimes it helps to be reminded that a simple thing like a gift card may be the best option.)

If a parent and/or a child includes a note of thanks, even better. It will be treasured.

I’m a reading tutor.  I don’t get nearly as tired or have nearly as many students as classroom teachers. They have my UTMOST respect.  I’m here today for them!

Here’s to learning, living, and summer!

  1. It's so awesome to see you back!
I hem and haw with teacher gifts, and ultimately do a great gift card. I feel like you can't go wrong. Or I always ask my teacher friends and family members what they REALLY love best.

    1. Thanks Tamara! It's so good to be back! At the school where my son attended Kindergarten, the PTO had each teacher complete a page about favorite things. It was so helpful.

  2. I know a lot of teachers that are looking forward to the summer right now. Gifts like these would mean a lot. Thank you for sharing with us at the #HomeMattersParty

    1. Yes, I agree Julie! I think, sometimes, parents feel that a gift card may not be personal enough, but I think teachers would disagree! Gift cards are very much appreciated by teachers.
