Gift Idea Using Photos and Memorabilia
My father-in- law turned 80 late last year. (He looks like he’s in his mid 60’s—seriously.) My husband wanted to give him something kind of special–something with forethought and effort.
He came up with a great idea—to find items from the year his dad was born, 1932, and combine them in a display box with photos of his dad as he was growing up.
We shop Ebay when we want to find something unique (or OLD), if we can’t find it locally. My husband found a 1932 license plate from our state there. The way it had aged made the colors perfect with the sepia and black and white photos. My father-in-law collects coins, so we found some 1932 coins at a shop near us.
My husband also found a TIME magazine from 1932, in almost perfect condition. The ads in it are the best part – fun images of old products. The magazine was too big for the box, but we had to buy it anyway.
The display box has a soft, textured insert that holds the items up close to the glass, so they can’t shift around. When hung, everything stays put. It opens so that things can be removed or moved if needed. (Found it at a craft store.)
I love the simplicity of this gift, and I love that my husband thought it up himself. My father-in law was so happy.
If you enjoyed this post, I’d love for you to pin it.
